"Astros, baseball, hat, shirt, Tommy"

"Astros, baseball, hat, shirt, Tommy"

I realize the above does not make a sentence, but this is how Tommy describes going to an Astros baseball game.

As Heath would watch the Astros play on television, Tommy would stop and watch with him. He showed such interest and had previously gotten a ball and bat as a gift. (A soft one of course!) He still loves to pretend to hit the ball on his own. He developed his own stance and pre-batting gestures as he would get ready to hit the ball. He enjoyed pretending so much we decided to splurge and get decent tickets to a home game. After all, if we were going to experience this with him, we wanted him to be able to actually see the players from our seats.

We arrived early just to ensure we could be ahead of the crowds and get Tommy to our seats easily. He stood and danced for the pregame music and watched everything intensely not missing anything!

Tommy and I ventured to the game store to see what he might like as a souvenir. He picked another soft bat and ball. (Since I would not let him bring his from home!) We purchased it along with a hat for Heath. We made it back to our seats and he was so proud to show his dad! I took the bat out of the packaging for him, but not the ball… I am not crazy!! LOL

As I presented Heath his hat and he got it all situated to fit his head, Tommy looked at him and then at the hat, and snatched it right off his head!! Proceeded to claim it and wore it for the entire game. This boy is very picky about his “look” and especially his hair. I have no idea where he gets that from! IYKYK:)

Now, he has not worn or showed an interest in a hat since he was young. The fact that he did all this was really cool to see. His personality has really come out over the last few years!

While watching the game he held his bat in an angled position in his lap the whole time. I am not exaggerating; I mean the entire game. His knuckles would turn white he was holding so tightly.

I did eventually go and get dad another hat so you can see they matched above. The game experience was great for us. Better that I could have hoped.

We were forced to attend another game in 2023. This came about as I was packing Heath for a race that he was headed to and we had the Astros game on in the bedroom. Tommy came in and assumed that I was getting Heath ready to go to a game. He began with his statement… “Astros, baseball, hat, shirt, Tommy” and left the room. I did not really think anything of it until he came back dressed in his hat and shirt carrying his suitcase that he had threw some clothes in and told us “Ready to Go!”

Sneaky Boy, right? He got what he wanted… How could we resist this excitement??? We cant! LOL He once again, held his bat the entire game sporting his hat and new jersey that he had gotten for Christmas.

What a fun and rememerable experience this was for all of us. I do think that with the love of batting that he has, if we got the opportunity to go early and watch the pre-game batting practice it would be really cool for him. The faster paced balls being hit in the park would be fun to watch.

Until next time -

-God Bless!
