Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon

Before you wonder, no this is not the lagoon from an old movie title! This is a “dive facility.”

Back in 2016 Heath was interested in scuba diving and received his certification. The interest was sparked with Kahlyn and the job that she had at the time. She worked for a lady that also ran a dive shop here in Vidor and she gave her high school seniors a certification course as their graduation present. Kahlyn and her dad were enjoying these classes together before she had her seizure and then she was no longer able to participate :( It was sad how all of this happened, but she still wanted her dad to continue on without her.

The Blue Lagoon is a spring fed rock quarry. It is beautiful and normally the visibility is wonderful for divers to do their training and check out dives. They provide an array of “sunken” objects that the divers can explore along with an underwater obstacle course. I love to snorkel, but not sure about diving. At this point in our lives, someone has to stay on the surface with Tommy Man!

In 2017, Heath was still wanting to get some experience and loved this facility, so we took the family! It is important to make a reservation. The reservations, guarantee the “diver" a spot of entry. You can bring “non-divers” to the facility, but the cost is a little more.

Tommy had a great time just sitting and floating around next to the shoreline and the kids enjoyed it as well! I was pleasantly surprised as it was really beautiful. For me just sitting and enjoying the water and sunshine was fabulous. It is a little bit of a drive, and you have to arrive by 10am to keep your reservation spot. The Lagoon is located in Huntsville, Texas. Look at little Tommy!

Plans for March 2025

As I have mentioned the cousins on Heath’s side share anniversaries all in February and March, so we decided to cruise together this next year. One of our ports of call is Nassau, Bahamas and Heath was excited for a chance to dive there again! In all of our discussions our cousin Shannon purchased her husband Casey a scuba course for Father’s Day. He recently got his diving certification so they will be able to dive together. It is better to dive with a “buddy” for safety reasons, but now he has a “family buddy,” so I know they will have a great time!

As preparations are beginning, this facility was mentioned, and we planned a trip together for them to get into open water before just jumping off in the ocean in March! We made our reservations and left at the crack of dawn!! Tommy was thrilled though; he knew he was swimming on this day. We pulled out these previous trip pictures to remind him where we were going, since it had been several years since we had visited.

We had a great time all being together, but it turned out that with some previous storms that had been through the Huntsville area, that the visibility was only an armlength which was really disappointing for our divers. Us swimmers still enjoyed the views!!

For this trip our reservations landed us on the beach area, so I did not have to worry about a rock/cliff entrance for Tommy which was nice. He tends to stay pretty close and since other divers were using the same entrance as us, he was very helpful as they all entered… (wink, wink!)

He would tell them, “Hello” and to “Watch out” and “Be Careful.” LOL

I think they all enjoyed talking to him honestly:)

Sadly, I did not do a very good photo job… I was too busy relaxing! Here is one that was shared with me of the guys going out on their first dive of the morning!

Tommy stayed in the water all day! He was totally exhausted. Even as we were packing up to leave, he was sitting in the truck with his head bobbing down and his eyes so heavy! Something about this boy though is he is always too interested in everything going on around him that he is unable to “give up” and sleep in the car.

I know of about three times in his 18 years that he has actually dosed off in the car! LOL

I have attached below a video of what I caught on the way home… Listen closely for his snoring!!

Now, you can be the judge as whether you think he was sleeping of just “faking me out!!” LOL

Never a dull moment with this boy!

Sorry about the sunshine affecting the video!

By the way…

HE WAS FAKING!! LOL

Love to you all and God Bless -
