Dealing with Behavior

Dealing with Behavior

Since I am not a behavior expert, everything I write about and try are geared towards my autistic child. Behavior for him is up and down and is normally a reaction… As mentioned previously in blogs, it depends on whom he is with and the situation as to how he will handle himself if he gets into a frustrated state.

It is sad the frustration that he faces daily. I believe the worst of autism for Tommy is the communication. If he could only put into words what and how he is feeling.

Right and Wrong

Currently, I have been striving to instill in Tommy right from wrong. Now if you ask Kahlyn, I am sure she may tell you differently but isn’t that the way it works with siblings!! But remember I did say currently. Now, I would never consider myself as a push over. Tommy did get corrected and will continue to. It may not have been the way that she was corrected but none the less he does understand what is expected of him. Thankfully he does feel remorse if called down on a wrong doing.

My mind…

Tommy and ways to help him always seem to be in the forethought of my brain. We have had a couple of recent issues at school this year and my mind was really working overtime this past weekend.

An Idea!

When I was young, teachers used “writing lines” as a form of punishment. I began to wonder if I created “do not” and “be nice” sentences for Tommy to read daily if that would be a good way to remind him whats expected at school. It would be more than me just telling him. It would be a “hands-on” approach.

So today was Monday - We read the sentences Sunday night and before school this morning. Tommy had a great day. I will keep this up to encourage him and see if this really may be an answer for connecting with him regarding his behavior.

Just trying ideas and evolving with them…

I believe that God give us these directions, suggestions and gentle nudges, or maybe just the ability to be still and know that He’s got this! We have been through a lot with school this year and last. I am so glad to know that it is in His hands. My shoulders have sure felt the pressure but my heart and soul have felt His peace.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path! - Prov. 3:6

God Bless -
