Drums and Jesus!
Heath and I are thankful for a church family that was always trying to include Tommy. Even when I (mom) was a little hesitant. I can’t help it, I am protective! I did not want Tommy to be remembered for doing something weird or off beat during a program.
With the encouragement of his Children Church teacher and workers, they orchestrated a special part for him in the children’s Christmas program. It truly turned out; on two occasions, to be a wonderful experience for him. I would have never thought that he would engage the opportunity as he did. He does amaze me!
Tommy’s first program was 2015. He was the Little Drummer Boy. His dad took apart his drum set and made him a single drum he could carry around his neck. He practiced every Sunday walking down an aisle and beating his drum. The “beating” came naturally – LOL
So here were the issues; would he walk down the aisle at the right time and when he got to the front would he actually beat the drum to the music? Also, all the kids were dressing for their part. Would Tommy be willing to put a drape on his head and leave it on? I just did not know when the time came what the outcome would be.
To our surprise, he “stole the show”. The music played and he marched down beating his drum and stood in the front of the church for his “drum solo.” When he was done playing, he took a bow! Totally not rehearsed!! It was precious and priceless all at the same time. Here is a video to show how proud he was of himself!
In 2016, he was given a part to lay baby Jesus in the manger. But instead of “stealing the show” he tried to steal baby Jesus!! Which I guess “stole the show” also. LOL
He walked in and laid him down just fine, but then he decided to sit for a minute, grab Jesus back up and run! Needless to say, we have failed in our teachings…
Do not run in the church and by all means don’t steal baby Jesus!! LOL
On a serious note. If you don’t have a church home or a support system, I pray that the Lord would lead you to the perfect place that you can seek refuge. In the hard times, during the storms and trials we all need rest and peace. All of the “stuff” that you may be carrying on your shoulders with Autism and everything else.
Jesus loves you and the little children.
But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 19:14
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. – Ephesians 6:4
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6
Love comes from God. Pass it on to others that you see struggling. You will also be blessed.
God Bless –
