Notes to Self… Tommy-ism’s
No Driver’s License -
When you think of teenagers and growing up and getting their driver’s license it can be such an exciting, but nervous time. I know that teaching our daughter to drive was great, although I get really nervous riding with her now. Let’s be honest, I get nervous riding with most people now… Somehow, ever since I got rear-ended, I have turned into a large scaredy cat!! LOL But that’s another story!
When it comes to Tommy, he will not ever have the opportunity to get his driver’s license, and frankly that is a GOOD THING! This boy has more “road rage” than any other non-driver I know!! He must get that from his father and sister! If someone puts on their brakes just to make a turn, he will begin to chastise them… “Come On”!! Honk, Honk! And don’t let traffic stack up in front of us… He really gets upset. It is crazy though, because he does not always know where we are going but he is like the “White Rabbit,” he is late for a very important date! LOL
Don’t let my drink run out –
Tommy has been introduced to so much now with our travels and just getting him out in general, he has no problem making request in public. Especially if he runs out of drink while dining… I have to reel him in as he puts up his finger to get the waitress attention and points to his glass as if he is the only person in the restaurant needing assistance! He will look at us then look down at his drink, tap on it and if that doesn’t get his request across, he will literally put the glass to his eyeball and look to the empty bottom. Enjoy this clip – LOL
Bad Weather – Darkness
When it comes to weather, he watches the sky very closely almost with a fear of the dark clouds and lightning. I don’t know why or even how it started. It used to not bother him at all. It could be the noises that come along with the bad weather, or it could just be the darkness.
He is so scared of the dark… If someone turns off the light, maybe not knowing that Tommy is down a hall or in a room, he will scream like a girl and come running. It is not even worth getting his stuff… He will just run!
I know no one but Tommy that can sleep in his bedroom. It looks like a runway. He has string lights, he has a neon light, he has candle lights. He has stars and dinosaurs that show on the ceiling. I know it’s crazy and I am sure that it affects his sleeping sometimes, but he requires little of that anyway! I pick my battles and if he is happy and will lay down in order for the rest of the house to go to bed, then it works for us!
Sneaky Boy –
Although we don’t always know what he understands, he is very smart! Speaking of bedtime. If I put him to bed, we are across the house and he knows if he waits long enough and gets up quietly and closes his door, that dad and I will never hear him! In the mornings, if the door is closed and he is hard to wake up, then he partied all night!!
When he was young, we had “tommy locks” up high on the doors, but now we have the “ring doorbell.” Since he is scared of the dark, I don’t really have to worry about him going outside anymore! (At night anyway!)
A Day in the Life –
Some days are funny, some days are quiet, some days are rough
All days can be different but still worth it!
Thankful for this boy that God choose us to raise and love.
I believe he does know how much he is loved as well, and that is and will always be our goal
- God Bless
