Pumpkin Carving, First Of The Season
Fall is coming, September is here and Tommy’s love of pumpkins begins! We don’t really celebrate Halloween, but I’m not against a little lighthearted candy and fun. Kahlyn and Tommy both had the opportunities to visit ‘trunk-or-treats’ and enjoyed visiting grandparents in their cute little costumes when they were both young.
So Tommy loves to say “trick or treat”, and “Happy Halloween”. On a side note he pronounces them very well too!! For him, it is mostly like Christmas. There are lights and colors and sounds – As Julie Andrews would say, “These are a few of my favorite things!!” LOL
So back to our topic – Pumpkins! Tommy will draw his face designs on them and we will assist with the actual carving, but he will clean out all the gross stuff (surprisingly). But most of all he likes the “fire” this means the candle placed inside illuminating the face he drew. He takes such pride in showing his handy work.
With that we head out on our Walmart trip. Thankfully a pumpkin was the only thing on his mind so I got out of there fairly quickly! We arrived at home and Tommy was greeted with his sister. He was so excited to have her carve the pumpkin with him.
They had a great time. I cherish these family times.
We do have plans to visit a local pumpkin patch in the upcoming weeks, so maybe some more carving fun in our future!
Enjoy this season with your family and loved ones. Even when it seems we are at our wits end with things going on with our children, families, jobs etc. BE THANKFUL – Find something to be thankful for. If it’s a person, let them know. A hug and a smile go along ways! They may need it more than you do…
